i would say TGIF but really, i have a hard time keeping up with what day it is anyways. And my Mister is off again- playing a show in Charlotte & then Charleston tomorrow. It's a bittersweet thing for me. I'm glad that he gets to play music. I'm sad that he has to be gone so much.

Ever since I learned how to write my name, I have been obsessed with penmanship. I was so excited to learn cursive. For some strange reason, we were taught the lower case letters first. My grandpa had made me a small cradle for my doll & brought paint for us to personalize it. I got to work & happily painted my doll's name (Pinky- it was my favorite color- of course) on the headboard. in cursive, unconnected lower case letters. I remember discovering dotting your "i"s with hearts or big fat dots. I went friggin crazy with hearts & dots & was so happy that I had an "i" in my name so I could heart it. I got a birthday card in the mail from my grandmother & carefully studied & practiced the way she wrote her swoopy "R"s. I love writing, doodling. I have many journals full of nonsense. I get complimented on my handwriting all the time. I have addressed many an invitation, many a name tag. I love it. I got a new address book the other day & was excited to sit down & fill it out.

I was browsing this stationary/invitation website: minted.com & came across their calligraphy section. Apparently, they will address your invites for a small price. They have your typical font types & then they also have specialized ones. I immediately thought- I could do that. So I emailed them to see if they were interested in seeing some of my samples. And they said they were very interested. So, I'm sending them samples. And who knows if they will actually like them or use me. But I hope they do. It would be a perfect thing for me to do at home & make some income since we are now down to a 1 person salary.

here are some others they have posted:

so i'm potentially excited about it. maybe...

also, I'm trying to get Zack to grow his facial hair like this.

bad.ass.

well, I'm finally getting around to updating this thing...

our holidays were wonderful. we basically just spent time staring at our baby. typical parental behavior. Ruby got lots of great presents from other people, but we didn't get her jack except boob milk & kisses. Exactly what she wanted.

Zack gave me two books: "Belly Laughs" & "Baby Laughs" by Jenny McCarthy. A lighthearted, candid, sometimes nasty memoir of her pregnancy & birth. Reminds me of me. I could write my own book on the subject. I think every mom could. I have had "The Shack" on my nightstand for quite awhile & have been scared to open it mainly because it has to do with his daughter's murder. Um, no thanks. That's a little too raw for me right now. I needed some humorous literary therapy & short chapters. I guess I'd much rather read about the sympathetic tales of stretch marks & c-section incisions.

We went to Columbia to celebrate baby Jesus the weekend before the 25th. We ate ham & laughed at baby Kate's toddler antics & played a raucous game of Scattergories & heard Ben say, "Huff it, Mom!" when she went to put cool whip on her pumpkin pie.

And on Christmas Day we went to my father in law's house in the morning & consumed way too much grease & gravy & watched Ralphie try to get his blasted bb gun on TV. We met up with my Dad & his fiancee Ellen (yes, my dad got engaged & we like her a lot!) for broiled eel, pickled squid, & raw fish. I think sushi on Christmas should definitely become our tradition.

Zack & I exchanged cards & had our own teary moment over our perfect little chunk of love named Ruby who is smiling at us all the time & coo-ing & squeaking & squealing & finding her hands. She is joy incarnate. (And she's only waking up 3 times at night! yay!)

Oh, & at one point on Christmas, I actually felt the hairs on my legs swish in the wind. That's when I realized I hadn't shaved since before i gave birth, which made me laugh really hard. At least the hair is blonde & not like Sasquatch-y. Again, too busy staring at my baby i guess.

anyways, here's some of my favorite recent pics of what else: my baby.

hope yours was happy!
xoxo
